Three day Training on Internet Investigative Journalism

Internet Investigative Journalism Course
  • What we did in the second day of the training
  • A summary of the training
  •  like or dislike

In the second day of the three day training on Interment Investigative Journalism, the course facilitator presentation was on ‘researching facts on the internet in helping senior reporters and editors get detailed and factual information from authoritative sources.

As a senior and veteran journalist this day was interesting in the sense that the topic covered important issues in making a journalist achieve the qualities of a good editor that is being knowledgeable

While Investigative journalism is finding, reporting and presenting news which other people try to hide, A journalist in such assignments through research is obliged to unearth the hidden information so as to make people know detailed information on what is going on in the community, the society and the world around them.

It is under this concept that the second day presentation was interesting for it greatly assisted me in achieving my expectation to the course, widening my knowledge in investigation journalism

Short profile of the Organization:
Established on November 2000, Media and research Centre (MRC) main objective is to provide information and research services as a resource in creating development opportunities for promoting entrepreneurial spirit for self-advancement.
Specific objectives for which the organization was established are to educate and enlighten people at all levels of the society on using information as a resource in creating knowledge to a number of issues and thus use the knowledge on developmental opportunities for promoting entrepreneurial spirit for self-advancement and understanding of various policies in and outside the country.

Media and Research Centre major aim include seeking and organizing workshops and training opportunities for journalists on various national and international policies in order to raise awareness and raise professional standard of Journalism in Tanzania. The organization also provides forums for discussions on matters of national interest to Tanzanians so that they do understand national and international policies such as the Millennium Development goals, good governance, human rights and policies that promote plans and actions of democracy and economic development.

MRC also conducts research in the field of social and economic sectors by focusing at the grass root level in addressing social evils of various sectors such as health, education, environment and democracy.

My expectation to this workshop is to widen my knowledge on journalism skills especially in research for investigative journalism for the betterment of the Tanzanian society in fighting social evils that include human rights violations, corruption and gender inequality.
